“ Height Max” is developed to find the absolute highest point of the plant in millimeters, and is therefore very accurate. This parameter does not replace the current height parameter, but is an addition to the parameter set. The current height is focused on stability over accuracy, by minimizing the effect of small movements, as a result of wind, external artifacts or diurnal plant movements.
To compute the maximal height, the PlantEye finds the highest domain (Group of points in the 3D file) that contains enough points and is close enough to the other domains. Of this domain, the highest point is then given as the height_max. This way we compute the highest point of the plant, while at the same time ignoring single noise points or foreign objects far above the plant.
